Tips For Buying Comfortable Steel Toed Boots

If you work in the industrial or manufacturing field, then you are likely required to wear steel toed boots. These boots are a must when it comes to protecting your feet, but some people find them incredibly uncomfortable. If you find the boots uncomfortable on your feet, then keep reading to learn about some tips to choose the most comfortable steel toed boots.

Buy The Right Size

Many people buy boots according to their shoe size. However, this is a mistake. Boots typically need to be purchased in a size that is one-half larger. If you buy regular boots in your shoe size, then they will stretch over time to accommodate your feet. However, this will not occur when you buy steel toed boots. The toe will sit against your foot and cause discomfort.

Start off with boots that are one-half size bigger. When you try them on, you may notice the heel slipping. This is not a sign of poorly fitting boots. Your heel should slip a little. As the sole softens and the heels mold to your feet, you will notice less slippage.

Keep in mind that your boots should also match the width of your foot. Widths are labeled as B, C, D, E, EE, and EEE. D is the middle width and is described as normal. Shoe width changes according to shoe size, so look at a chart to see if your feet match the normal width according to your size. If not, make sure to choose one of the wider varieties.

Wear Boot Socks

When you try boots on and search for the right size, width, and brand, you should purchase boot socks to wear during the fitting. These socks should also be worn whenever you wear your boots. The best boot socks are ones made specifically for steel toed boots. The socks are thick and have an extra layer of cushion around the sides and the top part of each sock. This prevents the boot from rubbing against the toes uncomfortably.

When you try on the boots with the socks, walk around for a few minutes. You should feel very little pressure around the toe area when you do this. If you feel some pressure, then try on boots that are another one-half size larger. You also want to make sure the boots flex at the sole where the ball of your foot meets the sole. This will help to ensure that the boots flex, move, and absorb stress.
